Fifteen young people planned, organised and evaluated a cricket tournament, which was held at Warrington Cricket Club. Sixty-two young people and ten community representatives and four officials from Hindu, Sikh and Muslim backgrounds participated in the tournament and were awarded trophies of excellence. There was a party atmosphere created on the day of the tournament with the young people expressing their sporting skills to their peers with over 150 people turning out to cheer and support the young people.
The project promoted commitment to responsible health, behaviour, leadership potential, useful employment experience and personal development. The tournament is now annual and has many benefits to the community as it emphasised how young people from different communities can work together in the interest of sport, and have the ability to be respectful, non-judgmental, and to maintain happy environment of which everybody has an important part to play. The tournament established good links throughout the community with individuals and alternative groups.
