The Volunteering and Events Team operates the Millennium Volunteers and Young Citizens Programmes.

Millennium Volunteers recognises and awards young people aged 16+ who volunteer in their local communities.  Certificates are presented for 100 hours and Awards of Excellence signed by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills are presented for 200 hours of volunteering.

Young Citizens was developed to recognise and award young people aged 14+ who also volunteer in their local communities.  Certificates are given for 50, 75 and 100 hours of volunteering.

Young volunteers are recruited and placed in organisations known to Youth Federation.

The MV programme started in 1999 and since then 1,648 young people have achieved 100 Hours and 1,190 have achieved 200 hours Certificates

High profile Celebration Evenings are organised twice yearly where young people’s volunteering are acknowledged and celebrated.

YOUNG CITIZENS

(A programme devised to recognise volunteering in local communities by
young people aged 14-16 years)

In 2005 our pilot programme exceeded targets
75  young people achieved Certificates acknowledging 50 hours volunteering

Young Citizens is designed as a lead into the Millennium Volunteer Programme and aims to foster and encourage a culture of volunteering as a way of life

Due to the popularity of the Programme Certificates for75 and 100 hours are to be introduced….

Young Citizens have already received training in Arts  and Crafts,  Drugs Awareness and Volunteer’s Rights and Responsibilities

Owing to the success of this training, and in response to requests from our Volunteers lots of new training sessions are in the pipeline…..

WELL DONE TO ALL OUR FANTASTIC YOUNG CITIZENS

In response to requests from our affiliated groups we are now introducing an award for a younger age group still.  Young Volunteer Awards are in the process of being designed for 12-14 year olds
