SUMMER CAMP

This week-long event is planned for juniors aged between 8 and 12 years who would not otherwise be having a holiday.
Young volunteers 14+ help act as older brothers and sisters to the younger children.
Accommodation is in tents and an action-packed programme is planned for the week culminating in a Talent Show in the mess tent!
Aim of the event:
To provide for the children:
- A traditional fun packed holiday in a safe, caring environment for children who would not otherwise be having a holiday
- The opportunity for a residential experience completely away from the stresses and strains of their everyday lives
- An experience whereby the children can have fun and enjoy simple pleasures
- The opportunity to be a child and to laugh a lot
- To make new friends from other areas
To provide for the volunteers:
- An experience for young volunteers interested in working with children
- The experience of working hard physically and emotionally away from the comforts of home
- A rewarding experience which can raise self esteem and worth
- An opportunity to undertake Millennium Volunteers Accreditation
- An opportunity to undertake Youth Achievement Awards
- An opportunity to complete the residential section of Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award
- Work experience for a Rank Foundation Community Placement student
